It is important to understand about how the ecosystem work, in order to develop knowledge about how good ecosystem management, gave an overview to make policy, to then be able to take the most appropriate action to protect the aquatic ecosystems.

The water supply is closely related to the life aquatic ecosystems and ecosystem sustainability in a broader sense. Nature has a system and a unique and powerful mechanism to perform its function as a giant water filter and as a means of re-charger reserves of freshwater resources that are necessary for life.

Water stored in the soil in addition to functioning as a backup source of fresh water, also has an important role in maintaining the shape and construction of the land, and to prevent, reduce, or slow the occurrence of abrasion. Excessive exploitation of ground water will trigger the seep of sea water, far into the inland region, and accelerate the decline in soil surface.

Aquatic ecosystems are composed of various components that are inside, such as rocks, plants, animals, micro-organisms, etc.. The existence of living creatures in aquatic ecosystems can be used as a measure of the damage. This is something that really makes sense, when an ecosystem contaminated by pollutants then it will reduce the quality of life of living things in it.

From a few decades ago, the number and diversity of pollutants has increased significantly. These pollutants not only micro-organisms such as parasites, but also heavy metals and synthetic chemicals.

The most dangerous pollutants usually come from plant waste are thrown away without a proper sewage treatment system. Next came the threat of pollutants from transportation and waste from households. In large quantities, the resulting pollutant transport system and household no less dangerous than sewage plant. It is certain that ecosystem damage will occur very alarming.

Ecosystems like a chain of life that are strongly interlinked to form an unbroken perfect circle. And aquatic ecosystems is one part of the chain.

Damage to aquatic ecosystems can be described as the breaking chain of life, and it means a threat to the survival of all living creatures that exist in this world.

It will be recalled that the water is a very important element for the survival of life. When we preserve the aquatic ecosystems, then that means that maintained the continuity of life.

Water Contamination

fined waterBroadly speaking, water contamination can be defined as the deviation of the water properties of the normal state, or the purity of nature. This happens when water is heavily contaminated by remnants of sewage and waste.

Judging from the result, there are two kinds of pollutants that enter the waters. The first is that the material is toxic and damaging that can kill micro-organisms living in the water. The second is that materials enriching the waters, so that it can help stimulate the growth of micro-organisms and algae.

Water contamination can be classified into 3 types :
1. Contamination in physics, this pollution can be caused by floating material and buildup.
2. Chemical contamination, this pollution caused by hazardous substances, could be carbon compounds or inorganic compounds.
3. Biological contamination, this pollution caused by certain organisms such as pathogenic microbes, algae, or plants that could potentially carry the water hazard.

People often assume that the waste industry is the largest contributor to the occurrence of water contamination. Actually in quantity, industrial waste does not the biggest pollutants factor. Truly are the biggest pollutants factor comes from of everyday human activities, such as household waste, agricultural waste, stock husbandry waste, fishery waste, transportation, etc..

For example, household waste is discharged into the river can disrupt the microbial life in the water, resulting in a decrease in the quantity and quality of aquatic biota. Remnants of water-soluble fertilizers can also fertilize aquatic plants that trigger the silting of the river or lake. Result of erosion and mud carried down to the sea will sink, and cover the surface of coral reefs, causing the death of coral reefs.

Currently waste from industrial activities can be said to have brought a serious threat to water contamination. Although many industries are implementing advanced technologies in waste water treatment, but still there are industries with no qualified industrial waste water treatment standards. It is very unfortunate, the regulations have been made, but there are still those who violate them.

Waste from industry-which does not meet these standards provide a serious threat to the entire ecosystem. Because through natural mechanisms such as wind, water flow, and the movement of soil, the diffusion of the waste can spread quickly everywhere.

Need to build a collective consciousness to prevent water contamination. Not easy, but not impossible to achieve. Humans should be fully aware of the importance of water for life.

The Journey of Water Cycle

water cycleWater is the most common substance on earth, it blanketed more than 70% of the earth’s surface. Water is everywhere, it is in the air, on the surface, in the soil, even in the body of every living being. Available in a variety of forms, vaporous, solid, liquid, or combine with other elements.

Water plays an important role in life, it guarantees the process of life. It also plays an important role shaping climate and weather, participate in maintaining the temperature at which it is located, even joined in the atmosphere is also a natural shield for the earth.

And humans are used for various purposes, such as for drinking, cooking, washing, bathing, treating disease. Also for the larger interest, such as firefighters, transport links, source of propulsion turbines, etc..

Then the question is, if the use of water so large, what will happen when the supply runs out. No need to worry because nature has a unique way to make the recycling process. The fact is, the water that we use today have been used repeatedly, which also has undergone recycling process many times. So this is a cycle that will never ending.

The sun is one of the keys of water cycle. The heat of the sun will evaporate the water that is in the land and sea. The vapor is also contained in the transpiration process of plants, also in human and animal respiration.

Next step of water cycle, vapor in the rising air forming clouds. Then clouds in the atmosphere will experience the process of condensation, forming water droplets, snow or ice. In time they came down to earth and is referred to as rain.

Most of the water that falls to the ground surface will be absorbed to be stored as ground water reserves and is also used by plants. Most of that is not absorbed by the soil, surface flow and is the cause of erosion and flooding, became warning for mankind.

Water flowing on the surface of the ground to form small rivers. They continue to flow toward lower gated and coalesce to form large rivers. And soon large rivers has set the goal, straight to the sea.

As long as the earth is still spinning then recycle this water cycle will never end. Humans will continue to consume water that has been used repeatedly before. And nature plays an important role as a giant filter that will ensure the purity of water through the water cycle.
